Meet the Music: Orlando Hinojosa

Some musicians learn songs. Others simply seem to have music woven into who they are. Orlando Hinojosa is one of those people.

Originally born in South Texas and raised in northwest Ohio, Orlando has called Indianapolis home since 1984. Music has been part of his life for as long as he can remember, inspired by his uncle, a professional Tejano musician. He picked up his first guitar at just seven years old and quickly discovered he had an ear for music. By his teenage years, everything began to click.

Today, Orlando brings a well-rounded mix of classic rock, country, R&B, Latin music, and folk-inspired favorites to every performance. His musical influences are just as diverse. From The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Motown to Elvis, Robert Plant, Janis Joplin, and the Tex-Mex sounds of his childhood.

When asked what he hopes people take away from his performances, his answer is simple:

"If I see people smiling and singing along, then I feel like I did a good job. That gives me joy."

One of his favorite songs to perform is Going to California by Led Zeppelin because of its relaxed, folksy feel, while Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young holds a special place as the first song he learned from beginning to end.

Before every show, Orlando says he leans on his faith to calm his nerves.

"I always let the Lord guide me, and He always calms my nerves."

When he's not performing, you might be surprised to learn he's a retired FedEx Express employee, a fan of both red and white still wines, and someone who proudly describes himself as a free spirit. His philosophy is simple: don't let age define how you live.

Peace, love, harmony, and great music.
